Museum Aan de Stroom - MAS, Belgium

Protected, compact and accessible

Optimum conservation and efficient use of space go hand in hand. The choice of the right storage means that the lay-out of the room and the dimensions and position of the aisles are configured so that the objects are stored as compactly as possible, while being individually accessible, as well as being protected against dirt, dust and damage by transport or vibration.

The key issue when designing a museum depot is to preserve an irreplaceable collection. No matter whether the collection comprises works of art, tapestries, ceramics, furniture, instruments, jewellery, clothes or natural history artifacts, the prefect solution has to be tailored to your museum.

Museum Aan de Stroom (MAS), Belgium - Bruynzeel Museum Repository

Antwerp’s town council organized an international architecture competition for the design of a new city museum. Neutelings Riedijk Architects’ 'Stapelhuis’ design was selected by the jury am as the winning concept for MAS | Museum Aan de Stroom.

In the MAS, you will discover how the port city of Antwerp and the rest of the world have been bound together for hundreds of years. The MAS is the new home of the Ethnographic Museum, the National Shipping Museum and the Folklore Museum.

The solution

When designing the new museum repository, the conservator opt for a museum storage with public access. This has resulted in installing a Bruynzeel Compactus® Double Decker mobile storage system to make optimum use of the available space. Restricted areas have been created and the collection is protected with wire-netting and glass walls. With installing this mobile storage system, the irreplaceable museum collection is stored clear and safe.
